PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR FEE?

I am happy to discuss my fee for 1-1 or joint sessions when we meet for an initial consult call. I offer a few sliding scale spots as well.

The Empowered Presence Program is $1275 and includes 10 large group sessions, 9 small group check ins, 1 personal session, weekly email check-ins (as desired and needed), two phone check-ins of up to 15 minutes each, and between-session practice/writing/exploration prompts.

HOW DO I PAY?

I will bill you monthly to your credit card of choice. My payment portal provides secure storage for your personal information.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

No. But I am happy to provide monthly statements which you can submit for reimbursement.

CAN I CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT? DO YOU HAVE A CANCELLATION POLICY?

You are free to cancel your sessions. However, the depth of work we do together depends on consistency and commitment.

Because we work on a coaching model, the monthly fee is not refundable. Unless your absence is due to illness, emergency, or you provide a 48-hour notice, you cannot reschedule a missed session. In the event you have given me a 48-hour notice, you must reschedule the session by the following Friday or Monday.

Also, if there are three or more missed sessions in six months, we will discuss whether to continue the therapeutic or coaching relationship. Obviously, there are always exceptions worth considering.

If, for any reason, I must cancel a session (due to illness or emergency), I will do everything in my power to reschedule within the week or prorate your monthly fee if necessary.

PRACTICE QUESTIONS

WITH WHOM DO YOU WORK?

My private practice is open to and welcomes people of all walks and ways of life, though I tend to find that the people most attracted to what I offer are women (whether Cis gendered or self-identified). I have occasional male identified, non-binary/gender fluid clients, and I welcome working with them if what I offer resonates.

About 55% of my practice is People of Color from various racial and ethnic backgrounds, and 45% are white-bodied people, all of whom are primarily women identified. My clients’ most common age range is 25-55, with a few younger and older outliers.

- Stress & anxiety
- Healthy relationships
- Self-expression & creativity
- Self-compassion/self-esteem
- Chronic illness/health issues
- Addiction/dysfunction recovery

- Overcoming limiting beliefs and behaviors
- Cultivating self-empowerment, confidence, and competence
- Cultivating self-compassion and joy
- Forgiveness

COULD YOU GIVE ME A LITTLE MORE DETAIL ABOUT YOUR SPECIALIZATIONS?

Clients who are attracted to what I offer tend to seek help in one (or more) of the four following areas:

  • Recovering perfectionists/overachievers who have abandoned themselves in search of approval and acceptance. People who often overextend themselves to live up to other people’s expectations and have an ongoing pattern of needing to prove they are good enough.

  • People who have lived with or experienced physical trauma, chronic illness, and health issues, or chronic pain often feel disconnected from or “not at home,” alive or capable in their bodies.

  • People dealing with toxic stress and anxiety, and find it challenging to manage the impact of their condition.

  • People who have grown up in or currently live in dysfunctional family systems or relationships. People who have been affected by other people’s addictions (for example, adult children of alcoholics/addicts or people with an alcoholic/ addict spouse) or have codependent relationships. People who struggle to set boundaries or say NO, or who often manage and control, take on too much responsibility, or often feel guilty/like it was their fault.

ARE YOU LGBTQIA FRIENDLY?

Yes, I welcome people of all walks and ways of life in my practice. See the “with whom do you work?” to learn more about this.

DO YOU WORK WITH PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS, ETHNICITIES, AND RELIGIONS?

Yes, absolutely! As mentioned above, I welcome people from all walks and ways of life in my practice, and I actively engage in learning how to be a safe ally for people from marginalized communities. To learn more about who I work with, please see “With whom do you work?”

IS THERE ANYONE YOU WON'T SEE?

I don’t work with people who I don’t think I can help. If you are explicitly out of my specialty area, or I think you need a higher level of care, I will refer you to someone I think will support you well. I am very discerning with whom I choose to work, not because I am a snob, but because I respect your therapeutic process and don’t want to waste your time or money.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN THE FIRST SESSION?

Our first session is mostly about getting to know each other. We may dive into coaching, mindfulness, or some therapeutic work, but I also like to keep it open and spacious as we get to know each other.

I do not claim to create a “safe space” from the beginning. Maybe you will feel safe, but perhaps you won’t. And both are okay. I will do what I know how to do to show up with presence, respect, consistency, and care for who you are. And I also know that trust and safety grow over time, at your pace. I want you to have the space to determine for yourself when you feel safe.

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN COUNSELING/coaching?

It depends on your needs and goals. Some people come with a clear intention and goal, and our work continues until we reach that goal.

Others are looking for deeper holding and long-term support. I have some clients for a few months, and some I have worked with for many years. There is no set amount of time. It is up to you how much support you desire.

If you still benefit from our work together and commit yourself to showing up, I am happy to support you for as long as you need.

IS OUR WORK CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes. I am in full compliance with all HIPAA best practices.

PERSONAL QUESTIONS

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN PRACTICE?

In this incarnation (or according to my current business license), I have practiced for 7 years. But I have been mentoring, teaching, facilitating, counseling, and supporting personally and professionally for 20+ years.

HAVE YOU BEEN IN COUNSELING OR EXPERIENCED COACHING YOURSELF?

Yes, I have received counseling at various times and with different types of therapists and coaches. I am so grateful for the various coaches, counselors, and spiritual teachers who have supported me in my growth.

As a teacher (coach, counselor, etc.), I like to remember that I am a student first and foremost. And I still do occasional counseling when I need support and guidance. I grew up believing that I had to go it alone and be responsible for everyone else. Counseling, coaching, and spiritual guidance help me remember I don’t have to go it alone. I can ask for help and support when I need it.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU?

Email or call. Please only text if we have an established working relationship and you want me to know you are late for a session.

SHOULD I WEAR WATERPROOF MASCARA?

I am a believer that anything goes. So, wear whatever you want. Roller skates (let me tell you about when I was 11 when I roller skated my paper route), a tutu, yellow spandex pants, waterproof mascara, purple lipstick, it doesn’t matter. COME AS YOU ARE!!!!

AM I ALLOWED TO ASK PERSONAL QUESTIONS?

You can ask whatever you want. And I do sometimes share my own experience, but only if I think it is in service of your process and growth. It is important to me that we keep our sessions focused on your experience and growth.

CATS OR DOGS?

I love both, but the current love of my life is an 11-pound Jack Russel terrier with a tad of Chihuahua in him. He makes guest appearances in sessions sometimes. And so far, everyone loves him. #wyattstanleyproffitt
